#11 of my 13 tips for a healthy you
It’s easy to walk through the monotony of life without mixing things up. You eat the same piece of toast for breakfast each morning. Drive the same way to work. Jog three miles at a nine minute pace during lunch. Drink that same pint of beer when you get home from work. Even sleep on the same side of the bed each night without a second thought.
Walking through life on automatic pilot can make change more challenging.
What would happen if you broke up the routine? Introduced a little spontaneity into your day? Maybe you’d take closer notice at life’s little treasures. Feel an unexpected surge of energy. Make small tweaks to your lifestyle that might very well produce a lasting and positive impact.
When tomorrow arrives, try scrambled eggs on a tortilla. Take new roads to work. Lift weights. Have a glass of wine, or better yet, skip the alcohol altogether. The other side of the bed is comfortable, too.
You don’t have to jump out of airplanes or dive off cliffs to mix it up. Whether it’s a spontaneous adventure or a more structured event, take a turn for the wild side. Throw caution to the wind and let your imagination soar. Try to work yourself out of bad habits and into better ones.
Shaking things up might give your healthy living plan a shot of adrenalin to make it more interesting, doable and enduring.
Challenge #11: On a piece of paper, write down what a typical day looks like. Now turn it upside down and inside out. Tomorrow, give this new routine a try.
