Healthy You Tip #3: Take inventory

#3 of my 13 tips for a healthy you.

Today’s culture is entrenched on our (many!) weaknesses and how we might go about improving them. I’m not convinced this serves a meaningful purpose.

Why not, instead, focus on our gifts and how to better build upon them to fulfill our aspirations? Why not concentrate on the things in life we enjoy and find more time to do them? Exploring undiscovered talents can be a far more useful exercise than deeply excavating our flaws, especially if we wish to boost our self-confidence and improve our well-being.

Sit down and take inventory.

How do I see myself?

How do I best relate to other people?

What are my strengths?

What comes naturally to me that others might work hard to do/be?

What stands out about me?

What makes me happy?

What makes my heart sing?

If you are having trouble completing the exercise on your own, then enlist an old friend, former employee, boss and/or family member to help. You might discover talents you didn’t even know you had. Their perspective and feedback may provide the lift you need to accomplish your dreams.

Challenge #3: Go through the exercise outlined above. First, answer the questions yourself. Then ask a few others to do the same. What did you learn about yourself? Is your view of yourself the same as others?

Make sure you keep these written words in a safe place to re-read periodically.
